Something Special

Companion website for the BBC TV series Something Special. The site has a good number of online activities for younger children with Special Needs and is supported by Makaton symbols, sign language and mutlimedia. The website has recently been overhauled for accessibility and switch access has been added to all the online games.

BBC jam

BBC jam is the world's largest archive of online educational activities for school pupils aged 4-16. It is a free and expanding resource which supports the National Curriculum in all subject areas. Materials specifically targeting Special Needs students are currently being added.

Poisson Rouge

Poisson Rouge is a site provided in both French and English languages which features many simple and visually orientated activities. The site is free to use and though targeting younger students, is widely used in special schools with older students who have severe learning difficulties. Navigation and most activities do not require reading.

Symbol World

Symbol World is a news and information site using Widgit Rebus Symbols.  The site hosts a large selection of symbol based documents covering a range of topics. Of particular note is eLive, a monthly magazine for symbol users with learning disabilities which includes entertainment news, current affairs and news articles.

Sensory World

Sensory World is a site developed by Elizabeth FitzRoy Support. The aim of the site is to provide an interactive place for learning which is fun, stimulating, appropriate and responsive. The site is based around a virtual house and garden and is tested and designed with users who have severe learning difficulties.
