Nick Weldin
Works at Paddington Arts, a mainstream youth arts organisation in the borough of Westminster, London. He runs a multimedia project that provides practical support for individuals with learning difficulties and organisations in the borough who work with them to use multimedia, with an emphasis on people with profound learning difficulties. The project runs sessions with groups as well as training for staff and technical support.
Before working at Paddington Arts Nick had a range of jobs - he ran an adventure playground for disabled young people, worked in many residential houses, on playschemes and worked in a leisure project for people with learning difficulties.
He also worked in community arts for many years as a maker, performer, musician and pyrotechnician.
Interactive work with people with profound learning difficulties
This session will look at some of the ideas I have developed over the years around sharing video, pictures and sound in a group and ways to support choice, control and self awareness and recognition. We will look at practical activities to do with people who may use switches (or other methods) to access things, and ways to work with more than one switch user at once.
Video for People with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities
A chance to find out about and play with some of the programs that I used in the morning to support access to video, sound and pictures in very flexible ways. We will probably look at a program called Isadora, that supports all kinds of ways of controlling and manipulating video and pictures, and Live - for working with sound.
