Project Apple : Further Research

Further Research

  • West Midlands trial & further LE iteration (Rix/UEA)
  • Implementation and continuity of person-centred practice through transition (Newham/SCIE/Rix/UEA)
  • Influencing developer practice for accessibility (AHRB - submitted)
  • Best practice for Support of use of ICTs by people with learning disabilities (UEA/Rix)
  • ICT for people with profound and multiple learning disability (UEA/Rix)

The Project has highlighted a substantial set of issues that demand further investigation and analysis through further research that maintains the project's dialogue with users and practitioners in commerce, education and social care including:

  • Further analysis of how quality support and mediation of learning disabled ICT users can be achieved. Building on the Project's findings to define best practice to inform practitioner training, policy and debate regarding technology in education and e-Learning
  • Research to understand the design and development practices and cultures >which affect commitment to an accessibility ethos and adherence to guidelines. A bid is currently under submission to AHRC/EPSRC 'Designing for 21st Century' initiative
  • Research and development to address the accessibility and participation factors for ICT users with profound and complex disabilities, to develop and trial solutions and propose best practice guidelines
  • Further exploration of whether it is possible to integrate personalisation and person-centred approaches within the existing accountability culture in education. What practical methods can blend the reporting requirements of teachers with the person-centred agendas of social care in the current climate?
